Dear doctor(s),

I am a 23 yr old guy. I have suddenly developed swelling around the ankles of my feet. It appears reddish in colour and when I press the affected region with my finger, a depression is caused at the place. The feeling I get is that some jelly-like matter has got deposited in the area.

I consulted a doctor and he advised me a few blood tests namely Complete Blood Count(CBC), Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate(ESR), Blood-Sugar test, Test for Uric Acid, Test for Rheumatic Arthritis(RA) and a routine urine test.

The results of the tests are as follows:

CBC test revealed my Erythrocyte Count as 14,000 units which exceeds the normal range.

ESR test indicate the rate as 87 units which itself is much higher than the normal range.

Blood-Sugar test revealed the following data: Fasting: 87.2 units Post-Prandial(PP): 107 units

Uric Acid test indicated Uric Acid composition of 0.99 units

Rheumatic Arthritis(RA) test showed negative results.

The Urine Test was mainly advised to test the presence of proteins which were later found to be absent.

Besides these tests, I also got a Thyroid Stimulating Hormone test(TSH) done which showed some 2.1 units as result.

After, studying the results of all these tests, my doctor advised me to take Indomethacin Capsules and Doxycycline Hyclate Capsules. I took the medication as advised . Now a period of almost a month has elapsed. The swelling has reduced by some 70-75% . Recently my doctor advised me to continue with the Indomethacin Capsules as long as the swelling exists. I was also told that the whole thing came up because of a blood infection of some sort. I am unable to understand the reason behind the sudden flare-up of the swelling. It did not result from an injury or any other abnormal conditions.

I request u to kindly advise me on this matter and let me know whether the course of medication I'm following suits me.

Thanking you,

Yours faithfully Chetan
